Few people in Croatia know that thirty years ago an exhibition of twenty artists was displayed in a cellar at Mesnička Street 12 in Zagreb, thus marking the formal opening of the gallery called the “Podroom” (The Cellar). The date was 24 May 1978. The exhibition was entitled “For Art in the Mind”,[1] and it gathered an informal group of artists who would soon, in view of their future joint public appearances, use the name Radna Zajednica Umjetnika (RZU – “Working Community of Artists”).
[1] Josip Stošić proposed the title of the exhibition; other participants were: Boris Demur, Vladimir Dodig-Trokut, Ivan Doroghy, Ladislav Galeta, Tomislav Gotovac, Vladimir Gudac, Sanja Iveković, Željko Jerman, Željko Kipke, Antun Maračić, Vlado Martek, Dalibor Martinis, Marijan Molnar, Goran Petercol, Rajko Radovanović, Mladen Stilinović, Sven Stilinović, Goran Trbuljak and Fedor Vučemilović.
